Libraries
The Society has two libraries housed in British universities. Although they are intended primarily for use by students there, they are open for members’ consultation during normal library opening hours. All volumes are indicated with our bookplate, together with their original owner (where known) or donor.
The first is in York, based in the historic King’s Manor building, as part of the University of York’s collections, and consists of both modern and historic volumes. The King’s Manor also holds our extensive collection of slides, currently awaiting cataloguing. A list of our holding can be consulted online through the York University web site.
Our second collection is based in Bristol at the University’s History of Art Department. The catalogue is now available online as a PDF.
We are tremendously grateful to members and their families who have made it possible to offer these books to students of garden history and other subjects. We are happy to receive donations and bequests to add to the collection. If you wish to help in this way, please contact the Honorary Librarian.
