GHS 2008 Essay Prize Winner

The 2008 GHS essay prize was won by Florence Clarke with a fascinating essay, ‘The Follies of A King-Duke’ about a little known garden created in the eighteenth century by Stanislaz Leszczynski at Luneville in Lorraine. The runner up, which was highly commended, was by Judy Preston with a charming essay, ‘In Search of the Picturesque and Such-like Flimsy Stuff’ exploring the satire on William Gilpin’s Picturesque theories, by Thomas Rowlandson and William Combe.
