Our great legacy of public parks, gardens and trees: conserve them, sustain them or lose them?

Wesley Kerr

Broadcaster, Journalist, Horticulturalist, and Chairman of the Heritage Lottery Fund’s Committee for London

9th GHS Annual Lecture at the RHS
Royal Horticultural Society Conference Centre,
Greycoats Street, London SW1P 2QD
(Victoria, St James’s and Pimlico Tube Stations)

6.30pm, Wednesday 16 February
Doors open at 5.45pm, lecture starts at 6.30pm

Wesley Kerr sees his home city, London, with its 2500 historic green spaces, including a thousand parks, as a ‘city in a wood beside a river’, but what is the future of our parks, public gardens and riverscapes? Can these spaces keep and maintain high standards and maximise biodiversity? Can we save our green and pleasant spaces from development, expenditure cuts, declining maintenance and neglect? Is there a sustainable future through targeted investment, higher standards, better training and more community engagement from seasoned horticulturalists and garden historians? At HLF, where he also chaired London’s Parks for People Committee, Wesley has been part of the biggest restoration and investment in public parks, gardens and green spaces since Victorian times.

The cost: £15 for members booking in advance, £18 for non-members in advance, and all tickets purchased at the door (refreshments not included). Doors open 5.45.
