Wentworth Castle: a summary of the ongoing restoration
Patrick Eyres

at 70 Cowcross Street, London

Launched by Prince Charles, the Victorian Conservatory is the latest restoration at Wentworth and houses the equally restored Blackamoor statue (painted lead, John Nost II, c.1720).

The next challenge is the Walled Garden.

The invaluable volunteers assist the gardeners across the 560 acre estate – and continuing research clarifies the life of Lord Strafford, who was Britain’s co-negotiator at the Peace of Utrecht (1713), and created the estate as a monument to his dynasty, the Stuarts and the peace treaty.

Doors open at 6.00 pm, lectures start at 6.30 pm

Tickets for this lecture at The Gallery, Cowcross Street:

£8 for members of the GHS paid for in advance,

£10 for non-members in advance and all tickets purchased at the door (one glass of wine included).
