Following the publication of her most recent book, Paradise of Exiles, Katie Campbell’s lecture explores the eccentric community of English and American expatriates who settled in the hills above Florence at the end of the nineteenth century. They created elegant garden settings in which to conduct their charmed lives of leisure, art acquisition and scholarship, as well as much of the landscape which looks to us today so quintessentially Italian.
