The Garden History Society (GHS) is the oldest society in the world dedicated to the conservation and study of historic designed gardens and landscapes. Through our interventions, advice and casework we have helped save or conserve scores of important gardens since we were founded by a small but dedicated band of garden-lovers in 1966.

I always assumed that the bridge is a prop for the construction of the viaduct arches that it sits adjecent to.

It's very hard to climb over becuase of the steep curve at either end (which is much the same as the curve of the railway arches), it's industrial made of iron and brick, and both of these points make it very unlikely to me that it is a folly.

I used to live on sandbourne drive and played there loads as a kid. I don't know much about how all the strange stuff in the woods came to be - like the cave with the brick chimney or the quarry that seems to have a door and walls built into it - but it was an amazing place to play.

I have a load more pics and research, old maps etc of which you are most welcome to use, please get in touch.

I had met with julie and researched through the University of California but can only find details, maps, plans etc for Gertude Geykls designs for Sandbourne House gardens, this land boarders the Folly Bridge Pool land.

Great to know that others are interested in what is a beautiful little Folly.

Cheers Jo

OK we discussed this in 'Tea and Sandwiches' blog @ http://www.wfa.org.uk/?/cal/20071220. Look at the sources for that blog, particularly the University of California link. Also a blurfer, Julie Copeman, is the person you may wish to talk to. Instead of giving you her email address I'll forward a link to this blog and she can get in touch with you, if she so wishes.

You are welcome to amend/add the wiki article on this @ http://www.wyfopedia.org.uk/index.php?title=Sandbourne_House.

I also have an old photo-postcard of the bridge, I'll try and dig that out and scan it.

Hope this helps.

Yes it is! I have some information on this and a contact for you. We discussed it on my weblog, the Wyre Forest Agenda. I'll dig it out.
In the meantime can I have permission to use the photo on my weblog?
