new book Radical Gardening: Politic, Idealism & Rebellion in the Garden

Posted on March 18th, 2011 by George McKay

with due apologies for the self-publicising … I hope some GHS members will be interested in my new book, published by Frances Lincoln in May 2011, with a grant for pictures kindly awarded by the Stanley Smith (UK) Horticultural Trust. Called Radical Gardening, it looks at the cultural politics of gardens and parks–by which I mean, for example, peace gardens and CND, squatted landgrabs and community gardens, the utopian ‘cranks’ of the Garden City Movement, ‘flower power’ of the 1960s and 1970s and links with gardens, the public park as space of urban protest, etc… Further information at http://georgemckay.org
